CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENT SET
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Students were to complete a virtual project site visit at 2910 N. College Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46205. The client for this project requested a first floor retail space that would remain a shell for the time being. The second floor of the building required a separate entrance and intended to be used as office space. The students were not given a building shell or size requirement. At least three WELL Building Standards were to be used on this project.
DESIGN DESCRIPTION:
For the overall design of the office space the three concepts I chose to highlight in my design were light, movement, and mind. Light is implemented in the space by way of the windows. The curtain walls on the south side of the building allow light to flow into the space while the windows on the north and east sides of the building let in smaller amounts of light in a more controlled manner. Movement is encouraged in the space through the unique staircase design. The tempered glass attracts the eye as one enters the building and indirectly prompts one to take the stairs as opposed to the elevator. The bike rack on the north side of the building encourages people to ride a bike in the very pedestrian filled city atmosphere. Mind is designed in the space by way of the covered patio. This allows employees to have freedom in the space and move around to an area that works for them. The various seating arrangements allow employees to sit wherever is comfortable to get work done. It creates a nook in an otherwise busy city environment. The planter boxes correlate to the nutrition standard, as fresh fruits and vegetables can be planted which encourages the idea of fresh and healthy foods.
