ADA ACCESSIBLE HOME
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
For this project, students had a 'real' client. ILAAD is a local group for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization is preparing to develop a neighborhood, Crossbridge Point, in order to provide these individuals with a safe yet independent living situation. Homes may be one, two or three bedrooms. The client was seeking a variety of floor plan ideas as they begin the process of designing this community.
DESIGN DESCRIPTION:
The façade of the home provides a charming curb appeal. The floor plan is rather intuitive, which provides a safe environment for an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability to live alone. The color pallet provides a calming, yet cheerful atmosphere. All aspects of the home are ADA accessible. This home truly provides a breath of fresh air.
SOFTWARE USED:
Revit, Enscape

Journey to Independence
A hot air balloon symbolizes freedom or a journey to something new. Crossbridge Point is exactly that. An opportunity for individuals with IDD to start a new journey in life and gain more independence. With independence being a driving factor for creating this community, a hot air balloon is the perfect object to represent the project as a whole. As I looked at photos of real hot air balloons, I noticed the baskets. I realized the symbolism this small aspect may hold in relation to the project. Baskets are typically made of woven wicker or rattan. They are simple, yet extremely durable. For the purposes of constructing my object, I made the basket of woven twine. The sturdy structure of the basket represents the firm foundation that ILADD has created for this project. All aspects from living areas to social and outdoor spaces have been considered. Much like the basket, ILADD has woven ideas to create a strong project with excellent potential. |
